an era ends ...

yesterday i recieved the heartbreaking news that my 95 year old great granny lost her battle with cancer. she was a total inspiration and a role model to me. right up until the end she was very active and sharp. the memory of her that will stick with me the most is playing monopoly with her, my granny and my brother at new year, it became a regular occurence, a tradition. she would always out-smart us and win, but that was part of the fun for us!!

love you lots great granny, always!

well recently things have been a bit different .... had so much stuff to cram into my life, homework, studying, practicing ... the list goes on and on ... basically the same as every other fifth year student studying for highers, but theres something different about me ...

i have something called meares-irlen syndrome, which is commonly known as visual stress, it means i find it hard to read and interpret words, they flicker across the page unless i use coloured plastic sheets called filters. bearing in mind this only got diagnosed after my standard grade exams and the week before i was due to go back to school, this was hard to cope with at the beginning. its like i'm getting over the fact and starting to become more confident in myself, then someone says something and then i lose confidence again, its been a rollercoaster of a time but i'm slowly learning to accept myself for who i am and not what i look like or what conditions i have. people think others who have a reading difficulty, like me or are slightly slower are stupid, well the fact is, we're not!!!!! we're just the same as "normal" people, just able to do it differently.

anyway, thought i should share that with you guys, and if you have any questions, ask away!!!!

conversations ...

have you ever thought of what might come out of a simple conversation? encouragement? cheering somebody up? helping somebody through a difficult time?

whatever the reason its good to know somebodys there listening to you! i love the fact my friends always seem to cheer me up when my day isn't going as i would like it! especially when its friends i haven't seen for a while who mean alot to me. i wanna say thanks to all my friends who can cheer me up no matter what, they know who they are!!!

lately though, i've been missing someone who i was very close to when i was wee, my papa. he was always encouraging us to try our best when it seemed impossible. he was always there with his video camera at major achievements in our lives. i've always tried to keep his advice close when i've needed it, almost every day in fact.

anyhoo i think i've rambled on enough for now!
